Recording of a Modern Slavery PEC lunchtime seminar, with Dr Marija Jovanovic from the University of Essex talking about the Identification and support of people with lived experience of modern slavery in prisons in the UK.
The presentation is following the groundbreaking new research that has uncovered the reality of survivors of modern slavery in UK prisons - many imprisoned for crimes they were forced to commit by their traffickers - and warned that the scale is likely to be much larger than currently known.
The research was carried out by the University of Essex and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the UK, in partnership with Hibiscus Initiatives.
The research uncovered many challenges with identifying survivors in prisons and found that they commonly receive minimal, if any, specialist support, with mentions of survivors having to share a cell with their traffickers.Check out our lunchtime seminars and explore modern slavery research in a short and accessible way, and sign up to the next one.
