Policy impact is central to the Modern Slavery PEC vision. Robust evidence on its own is not enough to influence the laws and policies against modern slavery, so our work is driven by our strategic focus on evidence-informed laws and policies in order to protect people from modern slavery.
We aim to build bridges between research and the world of policy making, law making and international standard-setting, so that they can guide one another. We aim to enhance the effectiveness of modern slavery policies and laws through relevant, timely, trustworthy and accessible research and evidence.
In order to achieve this impact, the Modern Slavery PEC works closely with research teams throughout the lifecycle of their projects.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Introductory meeting with the Modern Slavery PEC to agree ways of working and identify points for collaboration throughout the project.
- Regular informal meetings to discuss project progress, share ideas, troubleshoot and gain feedback.
- Feedback on project reports and other outputs, to ensure that they meet the needs of policy makers.
- Co-production of a short PEC-branded research summary to target policy makers.
- Collaboration on developing and implementing a plan for policy impact.
- Collaboration on activities, with the Modern Slavery PEC working to help maximising impact of events, publications and outputs.
- Communication of the project and dissemination of outputs, including working to achieve media coverage and promoting the findings on the PEC website, social media and other channels.
- Supporting networking and collaboration across other Modern Slavery PEC funded projects – from the same call, and others – to build new partnerships across the sector and improve knowledge exchange.
- Setting requirements for monitoring and evaluation activities.
